Michael (הי"ד)

Michael was born in Ashkelon in June 1997 parents Yaakov and Marina.
Michael was one of six children. He Studied at Tzvia Yeshiva and then the
Atzmona pre-army academy.

In 2012, his brother Netanel, a Golani, was killed in combat while
preventing a terrorist attack near Kibbutz Kissufim on the Gaza border.

Michael decided to follow in his brother’s footsteps, serving in the same unit.
He rose through the ranks as the commander of basic training,
then becoming sniper team leader.

After completing his army service Michael was accepted into the Shabak and shortly afterwards married Avia.

Leading The Way

On October 7th, Michael and his family woke up to air raid sirens. Michael was told that
there had been a mass inﬁltration of terrorists in the Gaza are and without being told to
do so got his combat gear ready and left the house. On the way he stopped at his base
for supplies and saw ten terrorists about to inﬁltrate.

Without missing a beat, he opened ﬁre on them and took out a signiﬁcant number but
was himself hit and killed. As a result of his bravery, the rest of the terrorists ran away
signiﬁcantly preventing further loss of life.

For six days afterwards he was considered missing in action until his body was found. He’s buried in the Ashkelon cemetery alongside his brother Netanel.

The Second Fateful
Knock on the Door

Benny Gantz, former Chief of Staff of the IDF visited Michael’s
parents during the Shiva:

“Yesterday, I visited the family who experienced for the second time the fateful
knock on the door, eleven years after the ﬁrst time. One can only imagine how
much their father, Yaakov, would want to be able to turn back the hands of time
and enter their room and see them sleeping peacefully in their beds, wish them
goodnight and turn off the light. Just to be able to read them one last story
before they fell asleep. And yet now, all that remains is a joint grave, of two little
boys who without knowing it grew up to be heroes, buried in the land that they
gave up their lives ﬁghting for. May they rest in peace.”

Life after Michael

Michael left behind his wife, Avia and three year old son,
Lavi who like his namesake is a tough little guy
who helps his mother as much as he can.
The family reside in Ashkelon.
