The Guri Family

Ariel Guri (הי"ד)

Ariel was born in September 1993 in Beersheva,
to Avinadav and Zahava as the oldest of four children.

Ariel grew up in Ofakim. As young child he was known for his good nature, his
bravery and as someone who took care of others and was lot of fun to be around. He
learned at the Abir Yaakov elementary school and Afiki Aretz high school .

During his army service, Ariel served as a squad commander in the Shaked battalion of the Givati brigade. Upon completing it he studied electrical engineering at the “Atid” college and married Hadar.

Ofakim's Savior

On October 7th, the family woke up to the sounds of sirens and approaching
gunfire in Ofakim. Ariel and his younger brother, Roi Chaim, 22, a Golani soldier
loaded their weapons and left. They identified a group of heavily armed
terrorists and with his handgun, opened fire on them. After a short gunbattle,
Ariel was shot in front of Hadar, who had run out to help. The terrorists then
opened fire on her. Hadar ran to a nearby home of an elderly couple who hadn’t
realized what was going on, told them to lock the door and windows and helped
them hide in the bomb shelter saving the couple. Only then did she realized that
she’d been shot in the ankle and was bleeding profusely

Roi Chaim, Ariel’s brother, also took part in the gun battle and was shot and killed. Together the brothers had deliberately drawn the terrorists fire towards them allowing other people to escape in time.
Ariel and Roi Chaim were close brothers, inseparable in life, together they died as heroes.

Life after Ariel

Hadar is a student of Special Education.
Hadar feels deep in her heart that Ariel is in a good and happy place
and that he’d want her to be happy. She often feels that Ariel lifts her face gently
and enables her to move on, spurred on by his beautiful and loving grace.
