The Yoav Family
Michael Yoav (הי"ד)
Michael (Michele) was born in August 1977 in Jerusalem,
to parents Shula and Eli as the oldest of four children.
Michael studied at Rene Cassin high school.
His father was killed in a car accident when he was young. Michael played a crucial role trying to fill the void left by his father’s tragic departure.
After high school, Michael joined the army’s Nachal Brigade rising to squad
commander.
He then completed his army service as staff sergeant. Michael became an air
conditioner technician and opened his own business.
At the age of 22, Michael met Ines and a year later they got married in Jerusalem.
The Last Dance
Michael and his good friend Uriel Baruch, set off for the Supernova
music festival next to Kibbutz Reim. There they danced all night with thousands
of other revelers.
The next morning at 6:30 when the missiles started falling, Michael phoned his
wife to tell her he was coming home. After a few minutes he called again and said
the situation was dire. During the conversation he told his friend Uriel to drive
faster and then the conversation was cut off.
For six days he was considered “missing” but a short while later his body was found near route 232.
His friend Uriel was kidnapped, killed and taken to Gaza.
