Moti Shamir (הי"ד)
Moti was born to Benzion and Esther Shamir,
in October 1993 and was raised in Elkana.
Moti was considered a great friend and always the first to assist in any situation,
He served in the elite Golani brigade swiftly rising in rank served as a squadron
commander with the rank of Major, in charge of hundreds of soldiers. As a career
combat officer, Moti combined his army service with University studies.
At the age of 22, Moti married Revital, together they lived in Havat Yair,
where their son, Lavi, was born.
Moti heard of the massive terrorist attacks on October 7th and decided to head
down south in order to help save lives. Without being called up, Moti said goodbye
to his wife and 4 year old son and drove quickly to the besieged communities.
When Moti arrived they joined with the 51st Battalion of the Golani Brigade
near Ofakim. A short while later they received reports of dead and wounded
near the Maon Junction and went to help. Upon arriving they encountered
heavy incoming fire from a roadside ambush. Moti took charge of the situation
and together with other soldiers took out the terrorists.
They then moved on to the violent battles of Reim. There Moti was wounded in the eye and took a bullet to the shoulder. As he bandaged himself, Moti was shot in the back by another terrorist.
Despite the heroic efforts of on-site army medics,
Moti was declared dead on the scene.
Life After Ziv
On October 7th Naftali heard about the atrocities happening in the Gaza area
and immediately deployed with his tank unit to assist.
After a few weeks of patrolling the Gaza border, his unit received orders to
prepare for the upcoming ground invasion. For the next month, Naftali and
his crew members engaged in bitter fighting in the Gaza Strip helped take out
hundreds of terrorists and related infrastructure.
On December 7tz 2023, Naftali and his tank unit were hit by an anti-tank missile. Naftali and another soldier were killed immediately.
Life after Naftali
Motis wife Revital was heavily pregnant at the time of his death
and was forced to give birth as a single parent.
His older child, a son Lavi is a brave little boy, helping and comforting his mother
through this trying period. His daughter Ori born after his death is a bundle of joy
and happiness and a soothing presence is a comfort in the face of such a loss.
